Treehouse Retreat — Exterior Lighting & Control
A small structure with an outsized effect: warm linear accents in the timber framing and controlled string lighting on the porch.
Location
Colorado foothills
Project type
Detached retreat
Lighting
Linear LED and controlled string
Control
Scenes shared with the main house
The challenge
Timber framing offers almost no place to conceal a fixture or a wire, and the structure sits far enough from the house that running control back was not trivial.
Our approach
Linear LED was routed into the timber detailing so the source is hidden and only the glow on the cedar reads.
String lighting was put on a dimmable, weather-rated circuit instead of a plug and a timer.
A hardened wireless link brought the retreat onto the home's control platform, so it shows up as another set of scenes.
The result
The retreat is usable and inviting after dark, and it turns off with the rest of the property on a single goodnight press.
Systems installed

Light inside the timber
Warm linear LED runs along the roofline and loft framing, concealed in the joinery, giving the space a lantern quality from outside without a single visible fixture.

Dimmable, weatherproof, controlled
Every exterior circuit is weather-rated and dimmable, sequenced with the property's astronomic schedule so nothing is ever left burning at full output overnight.
